This is my story on how I became a certified Baby & Child Sleep Consultant and Postpartum Doula.
I have always had a passion for nurturing and supporting others and I absolutely love children. Throughout my high school education I worked in child care. I was also involved in regular childminding for various families. Initially, I chose a career path outside of working with children, I went to Uni and became qualified in Human Resources. This was a rewarding career where I spent 10 years working with people of all calibers, it was a job where I was still able to care and support people, just in a different spectrum.
In 2015 I became a Mum. Becoming a Mum made me realise I wanted to work in a role where I could support families. It is the most rewarding and challenging role I have had yet and it was at this point my journey to becoming a Sleep Consultant and Postpartum Doula began. I had a great pregnancy, everything was going well until Jasper surprised us all when I went into labour at 34 weeks pregnant. A premature baby was not what I had planned, I didn’t even understand the full implications until Jasper was born. Long story short… Jasper was born premature and spent his first 15 days in NICU. Jasper was born with several medical complications causing feeding issues, sleep issues due to breathing difficulties and developmental delays. At 16 months of age and after 3 surgeries we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and our baby was on track. Throughout my journey with Jasper I began researching about sleep, I wanted to know everything there was to know about sleep and how to help work through his issues. It became a topic I was deeply interested in and I found a new passion, infant and child sleep.
I spent the next couple of years continuing to research and I began supporting families with their sleep challenges. I had my second baby, Jude. It was a challenging pregnancy but the outcome was worth it. Jude had minimal medical complications. I was determined to promote healthy sleep habits from the start and ensure the foundations to sleeping well were in place. Jude really was a healthy sleeper from a young age. I decided I wanted to combine my passions and begin a new career of working with children and supporting families in what is a common and difficult area of parenting. I became a certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant. I have worked with many families, resolving their sleep challenges and getting them the sleep they really do need.
While embarking on this new found love of restoring sleep, I realised just how much I was supporting Mum. It was just a natural flair, a calling you could say and something I absolutely loved. Many of my testimonials speak to my supportive nature. So there it was I trained to become a Postpartum Doula so that I could offer this beautiful support as a separate service. A support service focusing solely on the postpartum needs of a Mum.
I love helping families with sleep and postpartum care and I would love to support you.
